JOHN MATTEO

It is often said, "We have to look at the big picture." Yet I find that sometimes it is more rewarding not to; the play of light on the graceful curve of a hull or the beauty of the strands of a horse's tail can get lost when the canvas takes in a more expansive view. For this reason, my work tends to focus on the more unusual, angular perspectives that we often overlook in favor of the "big picture."
